Zazenkai for 2019
May 25 - 8:30am - 2:30pm CANCELLED*
July 13 - 8:30am - 2:30pm
*Unfortunately we have had to cancel Zazenkai on May 25, 2019, due carpet installation scheduled in the parish hall on the 25, resulting from a flood at the church which occurred recently. Noise from the installation will potentially disrupt our sitting. I asked if we could reschedule for the following Saturday June 1, but was told the date was not available, and it feels like the following Saturday, June 8th is too close to the June 18 sesshin, so we have cancelled zazenkai for this month.

All members of the TorontoZendo Community are most welcome to join us for zanenkai. We sit in the basement hall of St. Pius X Church, 2305 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON M6S 1P1

Schedule
8:30 -10:00 Zazen (Set-Up from 8:00-8:25 - Volunteers willing to help with set-up are most welcome)
10:00 - 10:30 Teisho
10:30 - 12:00 Zazen with Dokusan
12:00 - 1:00/1:30* Lunch (Bring your own lunch / Get your own lunch)**
1:00 - 2:30 Zazen with Dokusan (Volunteers are most welcome to help to put things away once we are done at 2:30)

*Those who bring a lunch may wish to resume sitting at 1:00pm, however, those who need to go out to lunch, and may need more time, are asked to be silent when they return at, or before, 1:30pm.

**A kitchen with refrigerator, kettle, cups and glasses is available for our use. You are welcome to help yourself to any of the teas we have in our tea cupboard. We ask that you please clean up after yourself, and leave things as we found them.

(Note to Jikis: during zazenkai the bells and gongs at teisho are like we do them on a regular Tuesday evening sit, and not as formal as they are when we are at sesshin.)

In order to cover the Insurance Expense required by St. Pius for every Zazenkai, we ask participants to each donate $5.00, if you are able. Nenates or Stan will be happy to accept your donation.

How to Find Us

Travel by Toronto Transit: The closest subway station is Runnymede, on the Bloor Line (Green Line, Number 2 Line). St. Pius is located at 2305 Bloor St W, on the south side of Bloor Street, a few blocks west of Runnymede.

TTC Map: https://www.ttc.ca/Subway/interactive_map/interactive_map.jsp#

Travel by Car: Street parking and public-pay parking in the area is available, but this is in the heart of Bloor-West Village where shopping is often in full swing, so parking may not be as convenient as you'd likeā€¦ There are four Green P Parking lots in the area (click to see map). They charge $1.50 per half hour with a maximum charge of $7.00 from 9am - 6pm.

There is Meter Parking on Bloor at location 5003. These can be paid for with the "Green P app" remotely, at a rate of $2.25 per hour, with a 3-hour max. If you have the app and an internet signal, you can add money online, as-you-go. (Parking amounts and details are subject to change without notice).

Residential Street Parking is available, and free, but unfortunately is limited to one hour. North of Bloor, the parking on residential streets looks like it is free on Sunday, but only one hour on other days. There are 3 or 4 free parking spots on the parish property, at the rear, which can be used, if these spaces are not already occupied, and they can be accessed from Ostend Avenue.

Entry to the Basement Hall is through a side door of the church. You can enter the St. Pius Church Hall off of Bloor Street, through the outside gate along the west side of the building, down the side walkway and in the door to the basement. This is the same door as the door to the parish office. You may also access this door from Ostend Avenue, at the rear of the church. See photos.
